To Aleid and Sue/Lady Amaranthine,
I was sitting here brainstorming about a few things and my thoughts are that you
and Lady Amaranthine go between your 3 comps I know it probably gets confusing
not only for you, but for the staff and for the members, so why not combine
everything into one and make a really strong competition.
Bring everything over to Webleagues. And you both can be co-owners.
I don't mean to butt in, but having been through something similar with my
growing pains with my competition, and the learning curves of what does and
doesn't work. I was talking with a couple of people are here with me and are
with you. In the process found out what you are going through and didn't know if
I could help. But figured maybe since I had been through something similar, even
though on a smaller level, maybe I could help. I have known both of you for many
years and thought maybe having been through something similar I could help.
1.Keep Dreaming of Christmas (everyone loves that comp-I know I used to love it
when I was TL there eons ago.)
2.Keep Pet League, or whichever Pet competition is the strongest(but send a
message out letting the others know what is going on so they can also join this
team from the other one-keep everyone in the loop)
Maybe the same person can run both Pets and DOC(I ran both at one time eons ago)
If you look at the last level of our in our regular Pets competition you have to
win that level 3X's then you are eligible for the Pet Championship.
This gives you and your pet something to shoot for.
Also their pets could cross over and compete in our Pet Championship at the end
of the Year.
(I have set up a page showing our Pet Championship where it is split and we
could put your pet champs to join in with us.)
3.Keep Vampire Volta (love that comp-but redesign it with better graphics)
(I have offered 3 different pages for you to look at)
4.Keep Ultimate Unicorns or bring back the Mermaid one ( redesign with better
graphics)
now you have two great Teams( I have offered 3 different pages of Unicorns for
you to look at)
You would probably need one person for each team
5.Now on one page put the upper team-All of this competition needs to be VE
(Aleid, competes in our upper level and it has run very well for the last few
years and we can keep track of it very well)
figure out what kind of background design you want.
Level 1 (Explore the Valley)
Level 2(Soar the Mountains)
(I have offered 2 different types of this page for you to look at)
You don't want to hold someone at the upper level for more than 3 weeks, trying
to win 3 weeks is hard enough.
If you want to hold your winners somewhere I could offer a page on which to hold
them as we hold our winners on a certain page which we call Sword of Excalibur
winners.
One person can run the Upper Level, now you only need 4 TL's which makes it so
much easier than having them spread out across so many places.
If you would like to cross over after your members have won their Level 2. Kind
of the way we do, when you win it 3X's you win like a triple crown award and you
are eligible for the big end of year finals.
(I am giving you an example of what our Holy Grail might look like if your end
of the year winners wish to cross over and join us.)
Then if you wish they could cross over and be part of our Holy Grail at the end
of the Year, we'd love to have them compete at that.
We always have an Holy Grail and would love to be able to offer that to your
triple crown winners also. This would give them something to shoot for.
6.No cheering, no games, no riddles, you have to keep it simple, don't get
complicated, most people just want to come in and just vote and get out. You
will lose people who don't want to do any of these things.
When you have downsized you will discover you still have a great competition and
that it runs very well and you don't need that many people to run it.
That was the one thing I did when I decided to do when I set up my competition.
I had competed in so many comps that had you jump so many hoops, I got tired of
doing it. All I wanted to do was just go in and vote. So that's how I set mine
up, just come in and vote, that's it and done, easy. You don't have to go
looking for their cheers or if they played the game or the riddles, all you have
to look for is if they voted.
When I started out, I tried to start out bigger than I have now, I had 4 teams,
2 upper levels and the pets team, in the summer was attempting to run a summer
mini comp and in the winter was attempting to run a mini Christmas comp. Well
within a matter of months realized I was in trouble and I had to downsize, so I
know a little bit about doing it. I now have 2 teams and the upper levels on 1
page and a Pet Team it runs very well. We also have 2 Championships for both the
Main Competition and the Pet Competition every year, to find a Champion. We have
dropped the summer and winter mini comp also because of lack of interest. The
one thing is, you have to keep it very simple and give them something to shoot
for in the end and keep it simple not only for your staff but for your members,
if you want to keep them. Make it managable, not complicated or spread out all
over the place between sites. Get rid of the things that don't work, or make it
too complicated or make members jump all over the place and make staff jump all
over the place(like going between sites). Keep it on one site. I'm sorry for
sticking my nose in, but I've been down this road, maybe not merging so many
sites, but trying to keep things running, and downsizing to keep afloat. You
have to keep up with what is needed, that's all I know. You just can't spread
people too thin, you will wear them out. By doing this you have a better
competition and people feel better about the comp and so will the team leaders,
and it works.
If you need any help please feel free to ask. I would be more than happy to lend
a hand.
But looking at what you have and the members you have, this will be a wise move.
As they say, best move is always to keep it simple.
Let people bring in as many sites as they have if they want to. All this
crossing over and going between sites and comps people feel like they are
getting lost
in the shuffle, and the TL's are probably getting worn out. If you have
everything in one place you know where everything is and can keep track of
everything better.
When you simplify things then your staff and members are much happier and not
only does your comp run better but you may find people more willing to help do
things.
As I said, I hope this has helped, I didn't mean to interfere but I hate to see
people struggle, so if I can help out with some advice with what I went through
I try and if you need any help please ask.
